Workers are a major part of any corporation. It’s their time and efforts that gets a company at a good profitable level. With all the ideas and no one to work on it, it’s all a waste. That statement, to my understanding, makes it crystal clear that the workers are the powerhouse of every company. Well, with the importance they hold, shouldn’t their profession be celebrated to honour their work? Not to bring it out as a shocker, but the workers do have a celebratory day and that’s 1st of every May.
In 1889, the Marxist International Socialist Congress adopted a resolution for a great international demonstration in which they demanded that the workers should not be made to work for more than 8 hours a day. Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader, was the one who came up with the idea of Labor Day. He proposed his idea to New York’s Central Labor Union early in 1882, and they thought the holiday was a good idea, too. On May 1st, 1886, there was the Haymarket affair in Chicago in the United States, in which a peaceful rally in support of workers led to a violent clash with the police, leading to the deaths of 4 civilians and 7 police officers. After that event, this date of each year is designated for the support of workers.
Now, with this dedication that the workers put in, not just to stand up for themselves, but also the work they deliver so fantastically, needs and should be rewarded.
